In India, Children’s Day is celebrated on 14th November as the day marks the birth anniversary of the legendary freedom fighter and independent India’s first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Pandit Nehru had a great love for children. He wanted to be among them, talk to them and play with them. The children also loved and respected him and called him CHACHA NEHRU. Most of the school and educational institutes  give it as a holiday and invite students to the school to celebrate Children’s Day. In the schools, children put on colourful dresses and assemble in the big hall. Not only students but teachers also take part in dance, songs, recitation and many other programs. There are also debates and other competitions. The winners get attractive prizes. Celebration of Children’s Day is very important because it creates awareness among people about the importance of children in the country. Children's Day is celebrated each year on November 14 in India as a tribute to the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Jawaharlal Nehru, fondly called 'Chacha Nehru' was born this day, that is November 14, in 1889. 'Chachaji' or Jawaharlal Nehru was known for his love for children which is why his birthday on November 14 is celebrated each year as Children's Day. On this day students and teachers give the tribute to Jawaharlal Nehru. On Children’s Day, many programs and events are organized at various places in manner to celebrate it with huge enthusiasm like kids are offered toffees and chocolates at schools, arrangement of cultural programs like plays, singing, dancing and fancy dress competition, speech narration, movies based on children are telecasted on television, distribution of gifts, clothes, toys, stationary and other required items among orphanage children.
